A Hong Kong woman was reported dead on Monday as a result of her pyjamas that caught fire from a gas stove and causing her severe burns, the incident occurred at the victim’s home in Wah Ming House, Wah Fu Estate, Pok Fu Lam at about12.40 pm.
According to the report, the 63-year-old woman quickly ran out from her flat with her clothing on fire and shouted for help from other flat occupants.
It was said that the fire eventually quenched at the front of her flat by neighbours' help prior to the emergency services' arrival with her upper body part more affected.
It was learnt that her back was seriously burnt and confirmed dead at the scene.
The report added that the preliminary investigations put it forward that the woman’s pyjamas caught fire when she turned on a gas stove to cook. She was alone at home when the incident occurred, it was said.
The insider said the investigation suggested it was an “accident” and an autopsy would be carried out to establish the cause of death.
