The 64-year-old man allegedly arrested for child pornography escaped from handcuff and recaptured

It was a surprising moment early this morning when a handcuffed 64-year-old  prisoner escaped from Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment. The man was being policed by two prison service officers when he manoeuvred and took to his heel.

The man who was arrested earlier this month for allegedly taking photos of his granddaughter and using them to make child pornography was sent to Lai Chi Kok Reception Center. On Wednesday he was taken to the hospital after complaining of ill health.

The source said a preceding investigation indicated that the handcuffs were not tight enough and the man’s wrists were so thin that he was able to slip through the handcuffs. 

It was stated that when a nurse in charge discovered the suspect was nowhere to be found where he was lying handcuffed, she alerted police at 4.05 am and the police officers reinforced to commence a citywide search.

A witness said the suspect stopped a taxi which took him home to Sham Shui Po to get money from his daughter, but she informed the police instead.

The source said, the man was aftermath caught by the Officers on Wai Lun Street, near the junction with Nam Cheong Street, at around 5.45 am, pinned him to the ground and handcuffed.

Police are now investigating how the prisoner escaped from the hospital handcuffed and also the Correctional Services Department has appointed a board of inquiry to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

消息人士稱，之前的調查顯示，手銬不夠緊，而且該男子的手腕很細，以至於他能夠從手銬中溜出來。

然而，當一名負責護士發現嫌疑人被戴上手銬卻不見踪影時，她於凌晨4點05分向警方報警，警方加強了在全市範圍內的搜查。

一名目擊者稱，嫌疑人攔下一輛出租車返回深水埗家，向女兒要錢，但女兒卻通知了警方。

消息人士稱，該男子於凌晨5時45分左右在偉倫街與南昌街交界處被警員抓獲，將其按倒在地並戴上手銬。

警方目前正在調查該囚犯如何戴著手銬逃離醫院，懲教署已任命一個調查委員會對事件進行徹底調查。
