The dead body of a man who was announced missing after being carried off by floods resulting from the rainstorm that excessively hit Hong Kong on Saturday has been recovered by the Hong Kong police.

The authorities earlier deployed emergency services who are up to 250 civil servants to facilitate the relief effort before the man's death was eventually confirmed on Saturday.

The officers later authenticated the corpse was a man reported missing amidst the rainstorm in a severely flood-hit Shatin area. His dead body was found in waters which is 800m east of Tang Chau island at 9 a.m.

Fire Services Department divers responded to the scene and searched thoroughly alongside the Kau To Hang River on Friday afternoon after getting a call that one person was swept away by floods at the front of a house near Hung Kiu Lane soon after 1 a.m.

Police said authorities would conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
