The second half of the consumption voucher for this year will be disbursed on the 16th of July, the financial secretary announced today. This is the continuation of the Hong Kong government's efforts to boost summer spending and consolidate the city's economic recovery.

Paul Chan Mo-po said at the press conference this afternoon that the existing registrants who want to change their electronic payment platforms are advised to finish the registration between the 5th and 27th of June. The new registrants who have never received the consumption vouchers before can also do so within the same period.

The consumption vouchers worth HK$5,000 or HK$2,500 will be handed out to the fresh registrants on July 16 and October 16 separately.

The collection deadline for the residents registered with Octopus will be on the 30th of June, 2024, while the vouchers distributed via the remaining platforms will end on the 29th of February, 2024.

Financial chief Paul Chan Mo-po believes that this new round of e-vouchers to be disbursed would inject about HK$13 billion into the Hong Kong market and trigger more economic improvement.

“The Consumption Voucher Scheme is originally formulated to stimulate the pandemic-hit economy. Tourism and various sectors have seen robust recovery since the COVID-19 pandemic measures were dropped, and thus the future distribution of vouchers depends on economic, social and livelihood conditions,” said the financial secretary.

Finally, he expressed his hope that this second round of e-vouchers and the Happy Hong Kong campaign will boost consumption and bring a more optimistic atmosphere.
