Three people were arrested at Hong Kong International Airport on Monday and Tuesday after the cocaine that has a value of Hk$1.3 million was found concealed in their bodies, said by customs on Wednesday. They were stopped while acting suspiciously during customs clearance.
The two women, 22 and 24 years old and a man, 22 years old were said travelling from Brazil into Hong Kong this week and believed to have been recruited by the same narcotic trafficking gang.
The customs' drug investigation bureau Senior Inspector said in the interview that the three suspects who boarded the same flight were flown from Brazil, Sao Paulo into Hong Kong through Dubai and Bangkok.
The two women flew into the city on Monday and were intercepted when they acted suspiciously at the customs presence. The man who flew into the city on Tuesday from Bangkok was also found acting strangely too and detained.
The investigation later indicated that the three suspects booked the same hotel in the city, brought along a similar amount of Basic Travel Allowances and their flight tickets were prepared by the same overseas travel agent.
The suspicious three were eventually taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for an X-ray examination that revealed that drugs had been concealed inside their bodies. As of Wednesday morning, the three discharged 154 pellets of suspected cocaine weighing about 1.6kg in total.
