China has expressed its willingness to assist Japan in response to the massive earthquake that occurred on New Year's Day. The Chinese foreign ministry stated that they are prepared to provide the necessary help. According to the ministry's spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, there haven't been any reports of Chinese casualties resulting from the earthquake. In contrast, the Japanese authorities have confirmed 62 deaths, making this earthquake the deadliest in Japan since at least 2016.
Regarding the recent airplane collision at Tokyo's Haneda airport, Wang mentioned that no Chinese citizens were injured in the accident. He further stated that Japan has not requested any assistance from China. However, Wang did note that the Chinese embassy in Japan has been in contact with the 14 Hong Kong tourists who were on the Japan Airlines plane involved in the collision.
The collision, which raised concerns about runway safety, resulted in the deaths of five out of six crew members on the smaller De Havilland Dash-8 Coast Guard turboprop. Fortunately, all 379 passengers aboard the Japan Airlines Airbus A350 survived the incident.
