Hong Kong environmental authorities are investigating the incident that happened in the part of Causeway Bay shoreline on Wednesday where waters turned to a milky white.
It was reportedly due to a suspected illegal discharge of pollutants and there was no noticeable odour.
It was also said that there were no dead fish and the pH and dissolved oxygen levels remained normal.
However, there was a conspicuous white-coloured waste water discharged from a stormwater drain near Victoria Park Road, the report said.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Protection Department said after the incident on Wednesday that personnel were dispatched to collect samples of water for analysis
Drainage services department also sent personnel to inspect relevant channels upstream in Causeway Bay to trace the illicit discharge source.
The department said it would continue the investigation and if violations were confirmed enforcement action would be taken.
