Hong Kong police are currently searching for a gang that robbed an 89-year-old woman of HK$530,000. The amount was said to have been wrapped in a shirt placed inside a shopping trolley.
The woman was waiting for her 50 -year- old son when the thieves took advantage of her as she was distracted knotting her shoelace. The incident happened at a municipal services building, Hung Hom, police said.
Police said that the incident occurred less than three hours after the old woman, accompanied by her son withdrew the cash from accounts at three banks in the Hung Hom area.
They thereafter went to eat at Hunghom Square and then to the nearby municipal services building on Ma Tau Wai Road where the son went to the toilet on the 4th floor of the building leaving her mother with a trolley containing HK$ 530,000 at the lift lobby of the same floor.
“An investigation revealed one of the thieves took the trolley while the other three acted as lookouts,” the person familiar with the case reported.
The source said further that CCTV footage revealed three of them ran down the rear staircase and the fourth used a lift. They were seen jumping into a taxi outside the building.
Police were informed and arrived to find the trolley without the cash left on the 4th-floor rear staircase of the building.
The source said the theft involved four non-Chinese men.
Police are yet to make arrests as of Monday afternoon and an investigation by detectives from the Kowloon City criminal investigation unit continues.

截至週一下午，警方尚未逮捕任何人，九龍城刑事調查組的偵探仍在繼續調查。
