Hong Kong's Richest Man Treats Over 4,000 Foreign Domestic Helpers to Disneyland

Updated: Jan 22

In a heartwarming initiative, Hong Kong Disneyland and the Li Ka-shing Foundation collaborated to create a memorable experience for more than 4,000 foreign domestic helpers. The event took place on two consecutive Sundays, January 7 and 14.

The Li Ka-shing Foundation, in addition to sponsoring the tickets and venue, went the extra mile to ensure a truly special day for the helpers. They organized two exclusive performances of the popular show "Festival of the Lion King," incorporating interactive elements to enhance the overall experience. The foundation also sponsored meals and arranged transportation, allowing the helpers to relax and enjoy a unique Sunday off.

Michael Moriarty, the managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL), expressed his gratitude towards the foreign domestic helpers, acknowledging their crucial role in serving different families in the city. He also extended his appreciation to the Filipino cast members of Disney, who make up the second-largest group within the Disneyland family.

The Li Ka-shing Foundation has a history of inviting foreign domestic helpers to various events. Last year, they extended an invitation to 26,000 individuals, including domestic helpers, healthcare professionals, and personnel from welfare organizations, to enjoy a free ride on the Hong Kong Observation Wheel and participate in carnival booth games. In 2022, amidst the pandemic, 2,000 foreign domestic helpers were invited to a movie screening, and in 2021, 4,000 helpers were treated to the newly opened water park in Ocean Park.

This initiative by the Li Ka-shing Foundation and Hong Kong Disneyland exemplifies their commitment to giving back to the community and recognizing the valuable contributions made by foreign domestic helpers. It showcases the importance of providing opportunities for enjoyment and relaxation to those who dedicate their lives to serving others.
