The Hong Kong tram company, known by the locals as 'Ding Ding' has made a proposal to increase the fares with adults by 10 per cent, from the current price of HK$3.00 to HK$3.30.
The French company said the number of passengers is yet to return to pre-pandemic levels.
According to the proposal the company submitted to the Hong Kong authorities on Tuesday, adult fares will be increased to HK$3.30 from HK$3.00 Concessionary fares from HK$1.50 to HK$1.60, an increase of 6.7 per cent, and for elderly residents above 65 years from HK$1.30 to HK$1.50, up 15.4 per cent.
However, the price of monthly tickets will remain at HK$260.
The company said the proposed increases were to ensure the long-term operation and development of the city’s famed trams, which run on Hong Kong Island between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, with a branch to Happy Valley.
Tram fares last rose in 2022, increasing by 15.4 per cent from HK$2.60 to HK$3 for adults. Fares also rose by 15.4 per cent for children, going from HK$1.30 to HK$1.50. The fare for elderly users went up 10 cents to HK$1.30.

不過，月票價格仍維持260港元。
該公司表示，擬議的加價是為了確保香港著名電車的長期運營和發展，該電車在香港島堅尼地城和筲箕灣之間運行，並設有前往跑馬地的支線。
電車票價上次上漲是在 2022 年，成人票價從 2.60 港元上漲至 3 港元，漲幅為 15.4%。 兒童票價也上漲了 15.4%，從 1.30 港元漲至 1.50 港元。 長者票價上漲10分至1.30港元。
