Hong Kong Observatory is expected to issue a Typhoon Signal 1 as early as Tuesday night

Hong Kong Observatory is going to issue the Typhoon Number 1 warning signal tomorrow night, as an area of low pressure is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone and move towards the city amid very hot weather, the report said.

The Observatory said on Monday the tropical cyclone was expected to move towards the coast of western Guangdong province and Hainan in the middle and latter parts of the week.

“Depending on its distance from Hong Kong and the rate of development, the Observatory will assess the need of issuing a higher tropical cyclone warning signal later on Wednesday to Thursday,” the forecaster said.

In another forecast, the weather watchdog warned Hongkongers to brace for very hot weather in the days ahead with temperatures expected to climb up to 34°C. A “very hot weather” warning was issued at 6.45am.

The mercury climbed to 34.2°C in Sheung Shui in the afternoon, it was reported.

According to the Observatory’s forecast, the maximum temperature on Monday will be around 33°C in urban areas and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. The mercury will rise to 34°C on Tuesday.

It was added, “However, with the tropical cyclone edging closer, the weather will be windy with occasional squally showers in the latter part of this week, and there will be swells,”.
