The video that emerged online showed the man covering his face with a mask and robbing a store.
A burglar who broke into a luxury bag shop in Tsim Sha Shui on Sunday night at around 8:30 pm stealing HK$1.7 million, more than US$217,000 worth of luxury handbags is being hunted by the Hong Kong police, the police said.
The report said the shop was raided in under a minute on the 8th floor of the Metropole Building on Peking Road by the lone burglar and he went away with 12 expensive bags including Chanel and Hermes brands.
It was reported that the building security called the shopkeeper of the raided store after its security alarm triggered and unstopped.
It was also stated that the storekeeper thereafter checked the apps installed on her phone that is connected to her security camera at the store to find out the problem.
Surprisingly, she saw a man robbing her shop and she immediately called the police.
The video that emerged online shows the thief in a face cap and a surgical mask, quickly taking the handbags on the displayed pinky shelves and placing them in a black bag. He did it within a minute and fled the scene before the police arrived.
Police said the burglar was 1.7 metres (5.6 feet) tall, and wearing a blue hoodie and dark trousers. No arrest has been made yet, it was added.
The detectives from the Yau Tsim criminal investigation unit are handling the case and it has been categorized as a burglary.
