Hong Kong police have started hunting for a suspect on Thursday morning in connection with the death of a 52-year-old man during a fight on one of the city’s outlying islands.
Officers were called to Cheung Chau’s Tai San Back Street shortly before 11am after a woman reported a fist-fight between the two men, the force said. “One of the men was found unconscious at the scene suffering head injuries,” a police spokesman said. The other man, believed to be aged between 50 and 60, fled the scene as officers arrived, he added.
The victim was taken to the island’s St John Hospital, where he was later certified dead. As of 12.30pm, the spokesman said the manhunt for the suspect was still under way. The man was last seen wearing a grey shirt and trousers, he added.
Police have classified the incident as murder, with detectives from the marine regional crime unit handling the case.
